Two individuals were killed when the attacker, 35, executed a car and knife assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on October 2. Counter Terrorism Policing North West stated the thirty-year-old man was originally arrested on suspected planning, preparing, and instigating of terrorist activities. Authorities indicated he was re-arrested at the city airport on suspected withholding information in violation of Section 38B of the Terrorism Act 2000. He has since been released on bail with certain restrictions. Police stated they "are confident there is no continuing danger to the general public following the incident last week." The suspect was shot dead by armed police Six people were held in the wake of the incident, with a pair—one male and one female—taken into custody in the hours afterwards and then freed on Sunday evening. The next day, detectives announced they had been given additional time to question the other four individuals, who were also detained on "suspected planning, preparation, and instigation of terrorist acts." On midweek, authorities stated they too were set to be released but emphasized that "was not an indication the probe was finished." Also on that day, authorities disclosed that the attacker placed an emergency call in which he swore loyalty to the group calling itself IS. Melvin Cravitz, sixty-six, and fifty-three-year-old another victim died in the attack on a local road in the area.
